Your only destination to all things CARNIVAL
The number of road deaths which took place between Fantastic Friday and Carnival Tuesday did not escape the attention of Minister of National Security Stuart Young.
Young, who spoke with the media during walk about in Port of Spain yesterday, pleaded with citizens of this country to drive safely, and to obey traffic laws.
He said the simple things, such as not speeding, or driving under the influence, could save lives, and reduce road fatality numbers.
“The road traffic accidents do have us concerned. However, it gives us an opportunity to tell people that they need to be responsible for yourselves. Please, don't drink and drive. If you know you have been drinking throughout the course of the day, don't drive. Let somebody else drive you, or find other means, (such as) take a taxi,” Young said.
He said that this was one aspect of national security where the responsibility came down to road users.
“At the end of the day, we can only do so much policing. Things like this, it comes down to the responsibility of each and every individual, more so on drivers,” Young said.
For 2020, thus far, there have been 25 road deaths. This is one more than the comparative period in 2019.
