Your only destination to all things CARNIVAL
The power of soca music to unify and energise people of all creeds and races was on display last weekend, as Kes The Band performed at the 30th annual Green Moon Festival in San Andres, Colombia.
This relatively unknown island paradise is owned by and recognised as a part of Colombia, but is actually located 750 km from the mainland and sits much closer to Nicaragua and Panama.
With a population of just over 68,000 persons living on an area that’s 12.5 km (7.8 mi) long and only 3 km (1.9 mi) wide, San Andres is still the largest island in the Colombia archipelago, which includes Providencia and Santa Catalina. Their native languages include Spanish, English and Creole, which is heavily influenced by Jamaican patois.
“When we heard that we were going to Colombia, for the festival, I immediately thought that it would be a cool thing because it’s a different territory and a different market, so it’s gonna be new and gonna be the first time for us and them, and that’s always exciting,” stated Kees Dieffanthaller.
