Your only destination to all things CARNIVAL
The largest Carnival in Mexico, Mazatlán’s celebration combines elements of a fiesta (mariachi bands, stalls of street food) with Christian imagery and indigenous tradition. Revelers in the streets break confetti-filled hollow eggs (cascarones) on each other, a nod to wilder times more than a century ago when dockworkers exchanged projectiles filled with flour and even stones.
Carnival was officially inaugurated here in 1898, and those lucky enough to visit during the week before Lent are treated to the modern Mazatlan Carnaval, the third largest carnival celebration in the world. One of the most enduring of Mazatlan tourist attractions, the upcoming 2017 Mazatlan Carnaval, centered on the Malecon, will continue the 119 year tradition and attract hundreds of thousands of people from all around the world.
Keep the dates Thursday February 23 until Tuesday February 28, 2017 open - that's Carnival Week!
