Your only destination to all things CARNIVAL
Patrons at Sunday’s Jazz finale at the Pigeon Island National Park got a two-in-one treat with a carnival showcase following the closing act on the Jazz festival roster.
The carnival showcase featured performances by Dennery kuduro artistes Matta and Migos, Kisha, Shemy J and Nerdy, Big Sea, Hollywood HP, Arthur and the Evalucian Band as well as Shal Marshal and Destra out of Trinidad and Tobago. It offered patrons a preview of the next event on the Soleil Summer Festival calendar—Lucian Carnival.
Minister for Culture, Sen. Hon. Fortuna Belrose, said: “We recognize that we are going into the carnival season, so what better way to introduce Lucian Carnival than through this event.”
Lucian Carnival will be spearheaded for the second year by the Events Company of Saint Lucia, and according to Marketing and Sponsorship Officer, Leila Williams, the organizers are in the advanced stages of unfolding the event.
“Last year, directly after Saint Lucia Jazz, we had the Roots and Soul Festival in June, and persons felt that maybe we did not have enough time to concentrate on carnival, so this year, we moved the Roots and Soul festival to Aug. 31, so that we have a longer span for Saint Lucia Carnival,” Ms. Williams explained.
Events Company of Saint Lucia unveiled a packed calendar for this year’s carnival season, which includes a number of national and community activities as well as events by private promoters.
“From the private promoters to the carnival fetes, it is an excellent schedule. On May 30, we have the formal opening of Lucian Carnival that we’ve dubbed Epic Wednesday at the Saab playing field. It is free for all.”
Epic Wednesday will feature the various elements of carnival including steelpan, costumes, and live Calypso and soca performances.
