It's all about the female artistes for the 220 staging of Best of the Best.
The popular stage show, held in Miami, Florida, is set for May 24 at Bicentennial Park in downtown Miami, and the first round of announcements regarding the line-up for the event sees a star-studded listing of female acts spanning the reggae, dancehall and soca genres of Caribbean music.
The event which is billed as North America's largest Caribbean music festival will welcome high-riding deejay Spice, current sensation Koffee, current “it” girl Shenseea, the popular Tanya Stephens, the veteran Lady G and soca queen Alison Hinds to the stage.
Event publicist Ronnie Tomlinson has been quoted as saying the move by the organisers highlights the strides women have made in a male-dominated music industry.
“In all areas, women are such a force to be reckoned, especially this past year there has been no denying the power of women in Caribbean music, just look at the reggae charts. It is unfortunate that often enough their presence isn't more visible and highlighted. In addition to playing our part in giving more female artistes the stage, we at Best of the Best wanted to make a statement by revealing our first round of an all-female artistes line-up,” she shared.
Among the reggae acts who have performed at Best of the Best over the year are Romain Virgo, Alkaline, Mavado, General Degree, Stylo G, Bushman, Shabba Ranks, Super Cat, and Capleton
