According to the Cambridge Police Department, two people were shot late Sunday afternoon at the Cambridge Carnival.
In a statement issued to the media Sunday night, the department reported two people sustained non-life-threatening, lower body gunshot wounds at about 4:44 p.m. near the intersection of Main and Albany Streets in Kendall Square.
This year’s Carnival included a parade from the intersection of River and Blackstone streets, through Central Square along Massachusetts Avenue and Main Street to Kendall Square. Other festivities included stages with music, vendors and contests. Following the shooting, Cambridge police officers closed the carnival and dispersed the crowds.
In the same statement, police said a gun had been recovered at the scene and a man, 23-year-old Michael Coleman of Dorchester, had been arrested there as well. Coleman will face charges, the statement noted.
At approximately 5:19 p.m., a separate shooting incident took place in the area of River Street and William Street in Cambridgeport. Multiple shots were detected by the ShotSpotter System and reported by nearby residents. There are no known injuries at this stage. Bullets hit at least one home, police said. Police say they have recovered one gun and ballistic evidence. Police say they are are actively investigating the area for any possible suspect information and obtaining further evidence.
